Why use a series resonant test system instead of a conventional hipot set?
Long cables and large generators present a heavy capacitive load. A conventional test transformer would need a very large kVA rating to supply the charging current. A resonant system tunes the circuit so the reactor and the load capacitance exchange energy, letting a much smaller supply drive the same test voltage.
What does "variable frequency" mean here?
The system adjusts its output frequency to find the resonant point for the capacitive load, with 0.1 Hz resolution. It calculates the load capacitance automatically and lets the operator set test voltage, frequency range and dwell time.
